In 2017, senior officials of the national central banks of the East African Community (EAC) participated in a study tour to Germany that was facilitated by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) / Academy for International Cooperation (AIZ), in order to enhance their understanding of the role of national central banks in the run-up to the East African Monetary Union (EAMU).
On behalf of GIZ/AIZ, Madiba Consult organized and implemented the second study tour “Fiscal Policy in a Monetary Union” for GIZ’s program called “Support to the EAC integration process”. Participates were officials of Ministries of Finance of the EAC, who used this opportunity to broaden their knowledge and understanding of the framework and mechanisms of fiscal policy work in the EU and Eurozone. In order to do so, various European and German institutions (e.g. European Central Bank, Deutsche Bundesbank, European Commission etc.) were visited resulting in fruitful knowledge exchange, lively discussions and a lot of contacts being made.
